CUT YOUR COAT ACCORDING TO YOUR CLOTH

Ever heard of…“Cut your coat according to your cloth.” or “Stretch your legs according to the size of your blanket.”

In short…

These sayings are easy to overlook when scaling a business. But at some point, you need to operate within your means. Scaling responsibly means knowing your limits and working within them.

For example:

  • Budgeting for growth by avoiding overspending on marketing or hires if your revenue doesn’t support it yet.
  • Managing team capacity by not pushing your team beyond their limits and ensuring their workload is manageable.
  • Focusing on product development by creating a version that fits your current resources.
  • Planning for expansion by setting realistic timelines that align with your available resources.
  • Prioritising customer service by not overloading your support team and maintaining quality.
  • Allocating technology budgets by investing in tools that scale with your business needs, not just what’s trendy.

So remember this:
  • You always have to make decisions based on what you have, not on what you wish for, and…
  • You always have to know your limits and make sure you’re cutting the right way.
