WOULD YOU WORK FOR YOU?

Thoughts for 2025…

A new year is here. Before you step into the office and engage with your teams, its time to take a moment for some introspection.

Would YOU work for YOU?

If you were sitting opposite me, this is what I would ask and insist of you. Let’s do a test…

  1. Do you maintain a strong work ethic? – You should aim to be dependable and consistent in what you deliver.
  2. Do you lead with authenticity and empathy? – You should strive to connect with others and inspire trust.
  3. Do you communicate effectively? You should listen as much as you speak and seek to understand before being understood.
  4. Are you both interested and interesting? – You should cultivate curiosity and build connections with an engaging personality.
  5. Do you genuinely appreciate your team? – You should recognise their contribution as it costs nothing but means everything.
  6. Are you mindful of work/home boundaries? – You should protect these lines, valuing balance for yourself as well as for your team.
  7. Do you treat everyone with respect? – You should remember that leadership is about relationships, not hierarchies.
  8. Do you make time to mentor and guide? – You should share your knowledge to empower others to succeed.
  9. Do you lead from the trenches when needed? – You should roll up your sleeves to inspire loyalty and trust.
  10. Do you inspire others to be their best? – You should set the example through your actions and words.

These ren’t just ideal traits I expect from those around me. They’re the foundation of what it means to be a leader others want to follow.

  • So, how did you score yourself out of 10?
  • What truths have you uncovered?
  • What changes will you make to become the leader you’d be proud to work for?

Leadership is a continuous journey of growth and self-improvement. Each step forward is a chance to grow, inspire, and make a meaningful impact.
Be the person you want to work with. If not, reach out – let’s ask, answer, and work through the tough questions together.
